Let's be real. Most health and wellness goals are weight-based. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but there are some potential issues that I wanted to address in this episode, as a sort of continuation from last week's episode around goal-setting.

The problem with weight loss is that many people rely on the number on the scale to gauge whether or not they are making progress or are "successful." Where a lot of people get tripped up is that weight loss is notoriously slow (when done correctly) and weight can fluctuate a lot from day to day. Consequently, people can easily get discouraged and give up if they're not seeing the "success" that they think they should.

In this episode, I run through 10 ways to measure success beyond the number on the scale, ranging from long-term to short-term. This is no way an all-inclusive list. However, I strongly encourage anyone who is setting a weight-loss or health and wellness goal to incorporate measures of success that have nothing to do with the scale. Identifying and recognizing these wins can give you a much more realistic sense of the true benefits behind weight loss. Because, at the end of the day, the number on the scale does not measure your worth, value, or the quality of your life.

The TL;DR - other ways to measure success include:

  1. How your clothes fit
  2. Your measurements
  3. Progress photos
  4. Your mood
  5. Your energy
  6. Your sleep quality
  7. Productivity and focus
  8. Fitness and exercise performance improvement
  9. Clearer skin
  10. Financial savings
