Show Notes

You set a goal. You set a goal to lose weight, manage your stress, save money for the holidays - whatever the case may be. You set a goal and then set out to figure out what you need to do to achieve that goal.

As you're looking at what it will take to achieve that goal, you find yourself saying, "Nope. Nope. Not doing that. Nope. Oh hell no..."

Does this sound like you?

I'll raise my hand over here, because this definitely sounds like me.

It's so easy to say what you want or what your goal is, but when it comes to actually implementing the steps that it will take, how willing are you to take those steps?

If you're like me and you find yourself saying, "I'm not doing that," then this episode is for you. In this episode, I dive into the fear that drives this attitude, where it comes from, questions to ask yourself, and what action to take so that you can break free and achieve your goals.

The TL;DR:

The fears:

  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of what you'll have to give u
  • Fear it won't work
  • Fear it will work (yup, you read that right)
  • Fear you'll alienate yourself from others
  • Fear of the unknown

Questions to ask yourself:

  • What am I afraid of?
  • Is that fear real or imagined?
  • Where is the fear coming from?
  • What will happen if I do it anyway?
  • What will happen if I don't?
  • What other options do I have or what else could I change to achieve the same result?
  • How bad do I really want to achieve this goal?
  • What will my life look like if I don’t take any action?

Potential next steps:

  • Figuring out what it is you really want and reworking your goal.
  • Deciding that you’re going to throw fear to the wind and do the damn thing… tomorrow. (No judgies, I get it.)
  • Brainstorm on other ways to achieve your goal, incorporating changes that you feel more confident about.
  • Call up a friend to get their perspective on what you could/should do next.
